Trevati Daal is a classic Gujarati dish that is prepare with a combination of three different lentils and the outcome is nothing less than flavourful and aromatic.
TREVTI DAL
Ingredients:
⅓ cup skinless split green gram (dhuli moong dal) soaked for 3-4 hours and drained
⅓ cup split pigeon peas soaked for 3-4 hours and drained
⅓ cup split Bengal gram soaked for 3-4 hours and drained
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 inch ginger grated
2 green chillies slit
1 tsp + 1½ tbsps ghee
Salt to taste
2 medium onions chopped
1 tsp red chilli powder
Fresh coriander sprig for garnish
Steamed rice to serve
Method:
1. Put soaked skinless split green gram soaked pigeon peas and soaked Bengal gram in a pressure cooker add turmeric powder ginger green chillies and 1 tsp ghee and mix well. Add 3 cups water and salt and mix. Cover and cook under pressure till 3-4 whistles are released.
2. Heat remaining ghee in a non-stick pan add onions and sauté till golden brown in colour.
3. Add chilli powder and sauté for a minute. Add the cooked gram mixture and ½ cup water and let it boil for 2-3 minutes.
4. Garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with steamed rice.
