VARAN
Ingredients
1 cup split pigeon peas (toovar dal), soaked for 1 hour
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon asafoetida
Salt to taste
¼ teaspoon sugar
Method
1. Pressure cook the pigeon peas with turmeric powder, asafoetida and three cups water till four whistles are given out.
2. Open the lid of the cooker once the pressure is completely released.
3. Mash the peas with a mathni.Add salt and sugar and mix well. Bring the mixture to a boil.
4. Serve hot with steamed rice.
